African Development Bank (AfDB) Internship Program provides students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the multinational institution.

Selected interns will be provided with a monthly stipend and will also benefit from the bank’s health insurance scheme.

Scholarship Details

The AfDB Internship is aimed at delivering financial and technical support for transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

In order to sharply focus the objectives of the Ten-Year Strategy (2023 – 2032) and ensure greater developmental impact, five major areas, all of which will accelerate our delivery for Africa, have been identified for scaling up, namely: energy, agro-business, industrialization, integration, and improving the quality of life for the people of Africa.

The Internship program is part of a wider Talent Management Framework which facilitates the Bank to deliver on the Ten-Year Strategy and the High 5s.  

Participants in the African Development Bank Internship are selected on a competitive basis, based on the business needs of the Bank.

Scholarship Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be 30 years old or younger by 31 December 2026.

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a master’s degree program in a recognized public or private institution of higher learning OR be applying for the internship within one year of having obtained a master’s degree.

  • Proof of enrollment in a university / professional institution/ school.

  • Citizen of a Bank member country. 

  • Able to communicate effectively (in writing and orally) in English or French, with a working knowledge of the other language.

  • Female candidates are encouraged to apply.

In addition to the above selection criteria, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following:

  • Adaptability to multicultural settings.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of a third language relevant to the Bank's operations.

  • Experience on projects that have a direct bearing on the Bank’s mission.

Benefits

  • As an AfDB intern, you will receive a competitive monthly stipend

  • You will receive medical insurance paid for by the Bank during your internship.

  • The Bank will use reasonable efforts to assist interns in obtaining entry and residence visas.

  • You may be authorized to participate in an official Bank mission.

  • Internships will take place either at Bank headquarters in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) or in regional and country offices, either remotely or on-site depending on the needs of the hiring units.

Duration

  • Internships shall be granted to each candidate for a period not less than three (3) months and not more than six (6) months. The internship is authorized only once for any candidate.
