The Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship supports international students enrolling in the graduate programs at Hokkaido University, starting in October 2027.

Scholarship Details

The Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship is for international students with outstanding academic achievements who wish to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral degree at the Graduate School of Environmental Science, Hokkaido University.

Students enrolled in the Graduate School of Environmental Science for October 2026/27 intake under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program “Graduate Program for Environmental Conservation Leadership for Post SDGs”.

Scholarship Requirements

To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

  • Application form for MEXT scholarship

  • Field of Study and Study Program (should include relevance of your research plan to SDGs)

  • A copy of applicant’s passport (or a copy of a certificate of family register, certificate of citizenship or other identification issued by the government of his/her home country)

  • Official academic transcript(s) for all years of last university/graduate school attended (issued by the university/graduate school attended. Grading System or Grading Scale information must be attached.)

  • Certificate of (prospective) graduation or a Diploma of last university/graduate school attended

  • Document(s) attesting to the applicant’s outstanding academic achievements at the last university attended (If applicable)

  • Recommendation letter from dean (or above) at the current university or institutions, addressed to the president of Hokkaido University.

  • Abstracts of theses (should be concise and to the point)

  • Proof of language ability that meets any one of the conditions above.

Benefits

  • Duration of scholarship:

Master’s course: 2 years
Doctoral course: 3 years

  • Monthly allowance:

Master’s course: 144,000 JPY
Doctoral course: 145,000 JPY

  • Travel Expenses

MEXT will provide arrival and return ticket.

  • Tuition and other academic fees
