Japan Government MEXT Teachers Training Scholarship

The Japanese Government proudly announces the MEXT Scholarship program, targeting Teacher Training Students for the academic year starting April 2027.

The Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship allows a number of applicants to be nominated by the embassies of their respective countries of origin to study in Japan-based institutions.

Its aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between the grantee’s country and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world.

The MEXT Teachers Training Scholarship offers;

• Allowance: After arrival in Japan, ¥117,000 per month will be paid.

• A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month will be added to the monthly scholarship amount 

• Education Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation and tuition at universities will be paid by MEXT.

• Travel Expenses to Japan and a return flight back to your host country.

To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

• Application Form 

• Placement Preference Application Form

• Certified grade transcript for each academic year from the last university/ teacher training school attended

• The diploma from the last university/ teacher training school attended

• Certificate of employment

• Recommendation letter from the immediate supervisor at work

• Medical certificate

To be considered for the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship, you must:
Nationality Requirements: Applicants should be nationals of countries holding diplomatic ties with Japan. Dual nationals must renounce their Japanese citizenship by the time they arrive in Japan.

• Age Limit: Candidates should be born on or after April 2, 2002.

• Academic and Professional Background:

  • Applicants who have completed 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan.

• Applicants who have completed studies at a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school in countries other than Japan. 

• Applicants who have successfully passed an academic qualification examination that is equivalent to the completion of 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan. (Applicants who will meet the above conditions by March 2027 are eligible.)
