The Martingale Foundation Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity that covers tuition fees and research expenses, including a tax-free stipend for Master's and PhD studies in the UK.

Scholarship Details

Martingale Scholarship applications for 2027 are now open!

Through fully funded scholarships and access to a community of pioneering leaders, Martingale Foundation enables and nurtures talented individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds to thrive within world-leading postgraduate research.

The foundation offers selected Master's and PhD programmes in a range of subject areas at our partner universities. Each partner university has made significant commitments to the programme to provide scholars with a world-class experience. 

Eligible Countries

Required Documents

To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

  • academic transcript,

  • evidence of financial need, and

  • two referees.

Scholarship Requirements

To be considered for the Martingale Foundation Scholarship 2027, you must:

  • Be from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Be talented students who are passionate about research and want to continue their studies at the master's or PhD level.

  • Have the academic potential and motivation to undertake postgraduate research.

  • Have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a First or Upper-Second Class (or equivalent) in your most recent taught degree in a relevant subject.

  • Be eligible to commence a Master's or PhD degree at a UK university from September 2027.

  • Qualify for Home Fee status at our partner universities.

  • Have been to school in the UK or Ireland for at least three years between the ages of 11 and 18; or if not, for at least seven years between the ages of 4 and 18.

  • Have completed your GCSEs or equivalent at a state-funded school, or received a scholarship or bursary covering at least 90% of fees to attend a fee-paying school or college.

  • Have faced or are facing financial barriers, including having a household income of £45,000 or under.

Eligible Courses

How to Apply

    You will need to complete the online application form.

  • 3

    If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview, where you will meet with academic representatives and a Martingale representative.

  • 4

    If successful, Qualified Candidates will then apply directly to one or more partner universities for an eligible course.

  • 5

    For Masters Scholarships: If you receive an offer from one or more eligible courses, you will be invited to submit your university and course preferences to Martingale. 

  • 6

    For PhD Scholarships: Universities will make offers of Martingale PhD places directly to Qualified Candidates at their discretion, from the pool of candidates who have applied to them.
