The National Youth Pension Literacy Essay Competition invites secondary school students and tertiary/NYSC participants nationwide to write on financial independence, retirement planning, and pension reform in Nigeria.

Outstanding essays are shortlisted for nationwide honours, academic prizes of up to ₦1,500,000, and recognition during the National Pension Week gala ceremonies.

Applications for the 2026 National Youth Pension Literacy Essay Competition are now open.

The National Pension Week welcomes applications from eligible secondary school, tertiary institution, and NYSC participants to discuss their dreams for a great retirement experience in Nigeria.

Put your ideas into words and show how today’s choices, policies, and innovations can help create better retirement experiences for tomorrow.

Eligible Countries

Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must be;

  • Students currently enrolled in a recognised secondary school in Nigeria. OR

  • Currently enrolled students of a recognised Nigerian tertiary institution or serving NYSC members.

Eligibility and submission
  • Entry is open only to eligible participants in the published category.

  • Each entrant may submit only one essay.

  • Entries must be submitted through the official NPW platform before the deadline.

  • The entrant must be the author of the submitted work.

  • False identity, false student status, or material misrepresentation results in disqualification.

  • Shortlisted entrants must complete verification when requested.

  • Employees of PenCom, members of the competition judging panel, direct competition administrators and their immediate dependants are proposed to be ineligible where a conflict of interest may arise.

  • Material administrative changes must be published on the official NPW site.

Accepted formats: typed text, PDF, DOCX. Maximum upload size: 10 MB.

Originality and authorship
  • Essays must be original work created for the competition.

  • Material copied without attribution may result in disqualification.

  • Quotations and factual references should be appropriately acknowledged where used.

  • The organisers may use plagiarism/originality screening and may request an oral explanation from shortlisted entrants.

Category A — Secondary School

Topic: My Dream for a Great Retirement Experience in Nigeria.

Students currently enrolled in a recognised secondary school in Nigeria.

Maximum length: 500 words

Prize: N1,000,000 + laptop + trophy + certificate.

Category B — Tertiary Institutions & NYSC

Topic: My Dream for a Great Retirement Experience in Nigeria.

Currently enrolled student of a recognised Nigerian tertiary institution or serving NYSC member.

Maximum length: 1000 words

Prize: N1,500,000 + laptop + trophy + certificate.

Applications are now open for the Erasmus Mundus ILSPSD Scholarship 2027. This is a 2-year, full-time Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's program that combines international law with peace, security, sustainability, human rights, politics, and global governance.

The program is delivered by a consortium of six leading European universities, allowing students to study in three or more European countries during the program.

Students can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, which provides €1,400 per month for 24 months, along with support for travel, visa, installation, and subsistence costs. Scholarship recipients are also exempt from tuition fees. More details are below.
