NCDMB National Undergraduate Essay Competition is designed to promote the Nigerian Content (NC) initiative and create awareness among Nigerians to build local capacity to participate effectively in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas industry.

The NCDMB Undergraduate Essay Competition offers ₦2.2m in cash prizes, laptops, as well as other awards for candidates with standout essay entries.

The topic of the 2026 essay competition is ‘PROMOTING MANUFACTURING FOR SUSTAINABLE LOCAL CONTENT DEVELOPMENT’.

Scholarship Details

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) was established in 2010 by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act. NCDMB is vested with the mandate to make procedures that will guide, monitor, coordinate and implement the provisions of the NOGICD Act, signed into law on April 22, 2010.

The foundation for NCDMB was laid in 2001 when former President Olusegun Obasanjo inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Local Content in the Oil and Gas Industry.

The NCDMB Essay Contest is open only to 100-200 level students in public and private tertiary institutions in Nigeria, including polytechnics and colleges of education.

Scholarship Requirements

To be considered for the competition, you must meet the following conditions:

  • This contest is open only to 100-200 level students in public and private Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria – Universities, polytechnics, and Colleges of Education.

  • The competition is open until September 26th. Completed manuscripts and accompanying documents must be submitted to www.ncdmbessay.ng on or before that date.

  • Late manuscripts will not be considered. Hardcopy submissions will not be accepted. (REGISTER ON WEBSITE FIRST).

  • Entrants must submit either a letter of admission or a signed letter of attestation from his/her Head of Department (HOD).

  • All essays must be original works specifically written for the competition.

Benefits

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • ₦1,000,000 for 1st place,

  • ₦700,000 for 2nd place,

  • ₦500,000 for 3rd and

  • All top 10 national finalists shall each receive a laptop

  • The winning essay will be published in the NCDMB’s in-house magazine, Local Content Digest.

How to Apply

Interested and qualified participants should apply using the link below;

Essays will be judged based on: Clarity of Expression, Spelling and Grammar, Originality of thought, Depth of Analysis, Relevance to Industry, and Conformity to Contest Rules.

    All essays will be subjected to a plagiarism check (software application) to determine originality.

  • 2

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a third and final interactive assessment.

  • 3

    There will be an award/prize giving ceremony for the selected winners.

  • 4

    The winning essay will be published in the NCDMB’s in-house magazine, Local Content Digest.
